Richard
and Christabel Tylee are fabric retailers
specialising in Liberty Fabrics from London. They have
an extensive range of Liberty Tana Lawn and a small
range of Liberty Kingly Cord, Liberty Twill and Liberty
Varuna Wool.
The
Liberty Tana Lawn was named after the Tana Lake in Ethiopia
because the yarn to make the fabric came from the Sudan.
It is a beautifully fine cotton fabric and when it was
introduced to the Liberty Store in the 1920's it instantly
became their best selling fabric and sold in quantities
which broke all their records.
This
is still the case today. The Lawn is soft and durable
and is perfect for summer clothes, nightdresses and in
winter to wear under wool or for travelling in the Northern
hemisphere.
Christabels
Liberty Lawn nightdresses have been available since 1984
and may be viewed here or
at their Showroom in Havelock North. Also in their Showroom
can be seen bags of Liberty Patchwork pieces
of varying size, Liberty Lawn Fat 1/4's and Zippit
bags made by the Zippit Company in Blenheim.
The
Liberty Fabrics have a great tradition and history going
back to 1879 and importing it from Libertys in
London has been a wonderful interest and challenge
for Richard and Christabel since 1984.
